Overview
Based on grid computing technology, resource management tool
from DOIT™ System - OptimRes™ constructs unified resource
planning and configuration management center through integrating
remotely allocated software authorization and hardware computing
and storage capacity.
According to company's resource configuration and management
model feature, OptimRes™ brings dispersed software and
hardware resource to company-level virtual resource pool,
making teams that are allocated in different places able to
share EDA/CAD application authorization rights as well as
hardware computing and storage resource. With the help of
tools like resource utilization statistics, resource costs
calculation and resource request analysis, OptimRes™
provides convincing data for companies to configure resource
and making investment decision.
Value:
• Enabling central management for dispersed resource,
constructing company-level virtual resource pool;
• Grid computing technology eliminates resource conflict
and optimizes resource utilization efficiency;
• Dynamically managing resource request chain, lowering
resource consumption and reducing design cost;
• Providing panoramic view and strategic data for managing
levels to plan resource configuration.
Features
Unified Registration Management for Software and Hardware
By loading resource configure script, OptimRes™ finalizes registrations of difference kinds of software and hardware resources within design environment, establishing a company resource management center.
Company resource management center shows the following structural
features:
• Virtual EDA/CAD software resource pool;
• Virtual data storage array;
• Grid computing infrastructure.

Project-related Resource Request Chain
According to resource types, quantities as well
as request for computing ability requested by each steps in
design flow, OptimRes™ constructs a dynamic resource request
chain (also known as resource view). Based on design request,
OptimRes™ checks out relative resource from resource pool
to design sites, once design is finished, checking in resource
back to the resource pool.
Dynamic resource request chain restricts occupancy of needed
resource by project to specified time window. In this way, not
only project's resource request is met, but also the unnecessary
occupancy of other resource is reduced, increasing the overall
resource utilization efficiency.
Load Balance and Grid Computing
Having constructed company-level virtual resource center, OptimRes™ fully grasps types, quantities, deployment and running status of resources in each department and R&D sites, forming a executing system with powerful grid computing capacity. When some CPU resource is running with full load, system will then require loading this CPU's progress onto other same or similar CPUs within the network environment. Therefore it solves the problem of each project's competitive request for CPUs, maximizing all CPU's computing capacity, realizing balanced utilization of overall resource.
Job Queue Solving Resource Conflict
Another way for OptimRes™ to
ease resource conflict is to perform job queue management system.
When authorizing EDA/CAD software, or having CPU or storage
resource shortage, pending tasks (i.e. emulation, logic synthesis,
STA, SI and P&R) enters job queue, OptimRes™ sort priorities
for these tasks according to projects' scale, significance and
other important factors. In order to meet immediate or privilege
resource request, OptimRes™ keeps manual interference
of job queue order, insert or delete job procedure.
Resource Audit Exporting Project Resource Cost
According to resource types, quantity,
project location, project name and user group property information
used by resource request side, OptimRes™ audits resource
utilization status based on time-window (day/month/quarter/year),
making resource utilization data statistics into a report,
therefore providing managing levels with complete resource
status view.
OptimRes™ is able to authorize EDA/CAD software, calculate
occupancy time and scale by CPU and storage devices, and also
calculate project resource consumption, thus obtaining project's
resource cost data.
Resource Request Management and Decision-Making Support
OptimRes™ calculates every
resource statistic gap or redundancy in real time. When certain
resource is frequently unable to meet the needs, managing
department will increase or enhance this resource configuration
plan; on the other hand, when certain resource remains constant
idle status, company will need to reduce or eliminate this
resource. Resource request data can also be considered as
bases for negotiation between company's managing department
and software/hardware equipment suppliers.
